I'm glad to announce that I along with 3 other colleagues from the Bolton guitar studies here at the Fred Fox School of Music became finalists for the 2023 Spring Schaffer Guitar Competition. While I did not win, as I placed last in 4th place, I was able to win myself $400 and finish paying off my tuition for the semester!
This weekly update Ill be talking about how using productivity apps helped me reach my goals. For starters, It was hard to know what to put my focus on so I wound up using Google Tasks (Far right) to write out individual tasks from both pieces. Then, when I would settle on a task to focus on, I would use ATracker to keep track for how long I've been working said task so that I can know if I'm spending too much time on something and make sure I dont neglect anything as I kept myself busy competing.
With Armellodie, I gave myself some time to look and work on the section that had been giving me some trouble. The difficulty in the last section I have yet to transcribe is that there's an ostinato of an arpeggio being played over the LH which plays different arpeggios as it's being held. I was only able to come up with different approaches that could lead to a solution. The first one being to get rid of the ostinato being played in the RH to a single note that's sustained using tremolo. Second, incorporating open tunings using the same pitches being used for the ostinato arpeggio to free up my LH in order play what's missing. Third, do some re-writing in order to make the main idea work without transcribing the piece entirely as written.
